With September over, we’re now into autumn and the new school year. It’s been an interesting month, as we took in a second stray rabbit. If somebody had told me last June that we would have not one but two rabbits before the end of summer, I would have questioned their sanity. Regarding the stock market, September was a somewhat volatile month, with slightly more down days than up days. Oh well, that’s life in the market. So how was my September dividend income? Let’s do the numbers and see:
AWP $ 44.00
BGY $ 33.80
CIK $ 22.50*
CLM $ 40.05*
CODI$220.00
DHY $ 27.13
EDF $ 17.50*
EHI $ 26.80
EXG $103.35*
HQL $193.50
NCV $ 29.75
PFN $ 36.00
USA $ 63.00
ZTR $ 24.00
TOTAL $881.38
* Includes Return of Capital
Wow. $881.38 is…really nice. I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like having a month’s dividend income be that large. 😀
It’s a rare event, but I occasionally experience something akin to a Christmas miracle when a stock makes a special payout. When it happens, the stock usually pays out twice in one month, or pays out again but at a substantially smaller amount. Not this time. CODI’s normal quarterly dividend is $0.36/share, but this special payout was a whopping $0.88/share!!! This certainly makes up for the lost income from selling off CODI piecemeal these past several months.
On top of that blockbuster surprise, USA nudged its quarterly dividend up 5% from $0.20/share to $0.21/share. For the past year, USA has been slowly raising its dividend upward every quarter. Let’s hope that trend continues through the rest of the year and beyond.
And the good news keeps rolling. HQL lifted its quarterly dividend from $0.41/share to $0.43 (repeating its Q1 payout). Given HQL’s track record of erratic dividend payout amounts, this is only very mild good news.
And there were no dividend cuts this month. Yay!
Again, because I needed the cash, I sold off 20 shares of CODI for $28.88/share.
Overall, September proved to be quite a good month. Very good indeed.
